Pharmacy

Skjöld Rambow

18- 31 July 2026

Bolding Marylebone

For Skjold Rambow, the brush onto canvas is like a poke into skin inflicting a bruise. This new series of paintings Pharmacy represents a shift from his primary focus of performance art to painting, making ostensible the vulnerability of the artist as performer. In this series of paintings Skjold paints the very act of painting meaning: the point at which something becomes something and when it does not. The private self and the performer’s ego tussle in a strip show which both defies and cowers from the viewer. Consistency becomes an ordeal as we experience a simultaneous anxiety and desire for giving up the self.

Dialectical thinking is made manifest in this exhibition through paintings depicting subjects grappling with control and/ or a descent into chaos. The ultrasound becomes the threshold between the body’s outside and in, as the inner conscious is monitored in this series of paintings.

Skjold paints that which is visible to others that we cannot see ourselves.  Paintings function as  medicine becoming cure for the divorce from the body as object.
